The WHY

Late summer is upon us now and tomatoes are abundant.  If you know me you know my deep love of fresh and juicy, sweet and acidic, beautifully aromatic and colorful tomatoes. Now is the time to capitalize on their freshness be it by canning them, dehydrating them, freezing them, or just cooking with them now!  It’s tomato season folx, so we’re celebrating with Tomato Week.

Also…If you’re up to date on my Instagram stories you will probably know that I impulse bulk ordered 25 pounds of tomatoes from my local CSA.  I then received more tomatoes in my regular CSA box aaaand today decided it was a good idea to buy more.  I needed the colors, ok? So, I’m sitting on close to 40 pounds of tomatoes.  Don’t worry, Jeff and I have eaten some already.  I’m going to process and store some.  Nothing will go to waste. However, I’ll be cooking with a lot of them this week for your, well and my enjoyment.  I now pronounce this week to be TOMATO WEEK.

Also shark week is over and we really need something else we can sink our teeth into, right?  How about some meaty, juicy, tasty tomato flesh?  YAS.

Will it be delicious?  Yes.  I will only post what I LOVE.  Will there be heartburn?  Probably. Did I also bulk purchase Tums?  Why yes, I did.

TOMATO WEEK! Kinda like shark week…but with tomatoes! Because we’re swimming in tomatoes! OK, ok, you get it…

The WHAT

There will be 7 days of recipes, one recipe each day to be released in the afternoon.  There will be a variety of ingredients and flavor profiles. This week’s focus will be on recipes created with fresh tomatoes in mind.  There will certainly be a few opportunities to sub canned or frozen tomatoes, so if that’s your jam, jam on.  If heartburn is a thing for you, I’ve come to understand that yellow and orange tomatoes are lower in acid than their red family members. So, you could try using those if you are worried about acid!

The WHEN

Starting today, Monday, August 24th 2020 through Sunday, August 30th 2020.

The WHERE

Check my Instagram handle as I’ll release recipes there first.  I’ll also pin them on Pinterest. I’ll follow up with a blog post as well and I’ll be linking everything back to this page so you can easily access them again.  Be sure to bookmark the Instagram recipes, or Pin them for future reference!

The WHO

Me!!

A tomato may be a fruit, but it is a singular fruit. A savory fruit. A fruit that has ambitions far beyond the ambitions of other fruits.
